Charlie Hustle

Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. For now he is welcomed here.

Rollie

Hearing news of a potential A's move to San Jose, watching Moneyball, and stumbling across some of my old A's ticket stubs from when I was a kid has me thinking of the Swingin' A's. Here's Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers, arguably the coolest moustache in baseball. I'm hoping to do more images of cool 70's and 80's ball players.

Winterball

Buck O’Neil as a member of the Almendares Baseball Club, the 1947 champions of the Cuban Professional League. This painting is part of "Right On Time: The Life & Times of Buck O'Neil" at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. It's a celebration of what would have been his 100th birthday. The show runs through February 5, 2012.

iPhone painting

This is an experiment in painting on the iPhone using the Brushes app. I bet it's much easier to work on an iPad but I kind of like that you really can't get too fussy making marks on the limited space of the iPhone. It's a nice constraint that forces you to think more about shapes and composition instead of detail.

Captain America

I saw some photos of the filming of the new Captain America movie and I was inspired! Looks like it might be pretty cool.

Batgirl

Batgirl based on the same styling as my Batman illustration. I'd like to try more superheroes based on this look.

Batman

El Maestro

In 2004 I participated in the Shades of Greatness group show at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This painting, a bit different than how I usually work, is of Cuban baseball player Martin Dihigo, possibly the most versatile baseball player ever (check out the stats). Known as "El Maestro", he commonly lead the league in hitting as well as pitching, and could play any position.

The highlight of the show was getting to meet and speak with with baseball legend Buck O'Neil about playing baseball in Cuba. Such a shame he wasn't inducted into the Hall of Fame.

We Come in Peace

Just a quick little experiment in character styling and limited color.

Robots

I've been really interested in t-shirt designs lately. This was inspired by the Oakland Raiders logo, which I have always loved even though I don't like football (but I do love robots). Maybe I'll make a CafePress shop and throw some designs up there, even if I'm the only one that buys them. Stay tuned.

Lunchtime!

I've been very busy and have neglected my blog! To get the ball rolling again here are some illustrations I did years ago for some interactive media. The background, food, and animal in the second image changed depending on the user. I'll see if I can find the other elements.
