El Maestro

In 2004 I participated in the Shades of Greatness group show at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. This painting, a bit different than how I usually work, is of Cuban baseball player Martin Dihigo, possibly the most versatile baseball player ever (check out the stats). Known as "El Maestro", he commonly lead the league in hitting as well as pitching, and could play any position.

The highlight of the show was getting to meet and speak with with baseball legend Buck O'Neil about playing baseball in Cuba. Such a shame he wasn't inducted into the Hall of Fame.
